Juicy Lucy

Lisa cooked up some Juicy Lucy’s for her September WDC.  A Juicy Lucy’s is a hamburger with cheese stuffed in the inside of the hamburger patty.  The originated from one of two bars in Minneapolis, Matt’s Bar and the 5-8 Club. Both claim to invented it.  Lisa built some super beefy rendition that were cooked to the perfect cheese melted ooze.

Prep Time: 20 min
Cook Time: 5-10 min
Total Time: 30  min
Yield: 4 large patties
Taste: Great


1 lb. 80/20 hamburger meat
1 tbs fish sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
salt and pepper to taste
American cheese (or any melty cheese)
Hamburger buns
Optional toppings: Tomato, onion, lettuce, mayo, bacon, avocado


1) Pre-heat grill to medium high

2) Mix hamburger meat, fish sauce, garlic, salt and pepper by hands or spoon in a large bowl.

3) Form the meat into “cups” and place cheese inside and cover with more meat. Make sure to seal the edges.

4) Grill until cooked through and cheese is melted (cooking time varies by size of burger and preference)

5) Option to grill bun tops and bottoms before adding cooked hamburger patty for serving.  Top with any optional commandants.
