Caramel Apple Crisp

I increased this recipe below for a dinner I hosted. I don’t think it turned out that great.  The topping was not moist enough and too oatty. If I made again, I would play around a bit with the topping ratios to get more moist mixture. I would say from the pictures of the original recipe it looks like there was more caramel and more butter might help or softer or melted butter.

Not enough moisture for the topping


2 medium apples, peeled and sliced
2 tbs all-purpose flour
4 tbs brown sugar
2 tbs butter
4 tbs quick-cooking oats
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 to 2 heaping tablespoons Mrs. Richardson’s Butterscotch Caramel Topping
Whipped Cream or Ice Cream (optional)


1) Place apple slices in two small, greased ramekins. Spoon Butterscotch Caramel topping over the apples.

2) In a bowl, combine flour and brown sugar; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add oats and cinnamon. Sprinkle over apple slices and caramel.

3) Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until tender. Serve with cream or ice cream if desired.
