Brussel Sprouts

Brussel sprouts get a bad rap for being a food kids hate. I’ll admit I never had them as a kid, but I don’t think my mother ever tried to make them either. We were traveling last month and another couple we went to dinner with said we HAD to try the brussel sprouts. How often do you hear that?! So we did and they were pretty amazing. However, they were fried and had bacon pieces mixed in so how could they not be good? Here’s my take on a recipe, although not fried, but still pretty good.

Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 15-20 min
Total Time: 30 min
Yield: Good
Taste: 2 servings

Ingredients:
1 lb of brussel sprouts
1/2 shallot, chopped
2 tbs of good olive oil
1/2 tsp of kosher salt
1/2 tsp of fresh cracked pepper

Optional flavor additions:
pine nuts, slivered almonds, prosciutto

Procedure:
1) Preheat oven to 400 degrees
2) Cut the ends off the brussel sprouts and slice in half vertically from the stem. Place sprouts on a baking sheet
3) Drizzle olive oil over top of sprouts and sprinkle evenly with chopped shallot, salt, pepper, and any optional ingredients. Mix well.
4) Cook for 15-20 min until tender.
